You'll be surprised to find out that the Lao people celebrate their New Year's Eve in April(the 15th, the 16th and the 17th). People from all aroud the world come to praise Buddha, drink and have a very good time. They clean their homes, their Buddha statues and "baptise" each other with holy water.
Tip: in case you really want to take part, make sure you book yourself a room weeks in advance.
